IRS e-file Options For:

Individual Taxpayers

File your Individual Income Tax Return electronically (available through October 15).

Free Federal Online Filing is available through the Free File program.

Business and Self-Employed Taxpayers

Electronic filing and payment options for businesses including employment taxes, information returns, partnerships, corporations, and estates & trusts.

Includes information on the new Modernized e-File (MeF) program for partnership returns, Forms1065/1065-B.

Large and Mid-Size Corporations Certain large and mid-size corporations are required to electronically file their Forms 1120 and 1120-S, while others may do so voluntarily. Individual Taxpayers Claiming Homebuyer Credit
The Worker, Homeownership, and Business Assistance Act of 2009 extended the homebuyer credit to a broader range of home purchasers and added new requirements for documentation that taxpayers must submit. Taxpayers who purchased a home during 2009 can still e-file their 2009 tax return if they amend their 2008 tax return to claim the homebuyer credit (instead of claiming it on their 2009 return).

Updated ruling as of September 14, 2009 for all IRS e-file providers who obtain taxpayer information via the Internet directly or through third parties to e-file returns electronically.
